Our in-house publication “Standard Conditions for Contractors and Suppliers to Promote and Enhance a Safe Working Environment”, enforces our commitment to eliminate work on unplanned and un-coordinated activities and to reduce the number of minor injuries, near miss incidents and reportable incidents on our sites.

To enable us to achieve this the Board of Directors have agreed the following health, safety and environmental objectives for 2008:

  • Maintain compliance with our OHSAS18001 Safety Management System (SMS) and ISO14001Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Raise our Sub-contractors standards including the production of Site Specific Method Statements, raising the competence of Supervisors and workers
  • Raise the profile of environmental issues within Durkan and our supply chain
  • To continue to provide consistent, high quality HS&E training in order to provide a trained and competent workforce
  • Improve worker consultation and sustain the awareness of health, safety and environmental issues by establishing Site Safety Committees, revitalising our Site Induction and Trade Safety cards and our Corporate Safety board, and displaying hazard boards on all our sites
  • Continue to review, challenge an set fresh targets for on-site standards and increase the desire of workers to work safely
  • Establish a health surveillance programme with Sarsen Health Ltd for our workers to help them avoid work related ill-health

Health, safety and environmental management are integral to our success and a fundamental part of our business and the Board of Directors is actively committed to achieve the highest standards to ensure that it stays at the core of the organization.
