Durkan start work at Greenwich Wharf
Durkan Limited have just started a £43million contract to build 267 new affordable homes for Greenwich Wharf Ltd, part of the London and Regional development group in the prime SE10 postcode of Greenwich, London.
The project is part of a wider development that will be known as Greenwich Wharf and will include private apartments, a 100 guest room hotel, a landmark office building, retail units and a health club with swimming pool. Once complete, Greenwich Wharf will be one of the premier riverfront destinations in the London borough of Greenwich.
The former wharfs and commercial yard will be transformed into four separate buildings rising to six and seven storeys in height, providing 237 flats and 30 four-bedroom townhouses for rented ownership.
Durkan will use concrete frame construction for the apartments and timber frame solutions for the townhouses, both with brick and render cladding. The project includes underground parking and associated soft and hard landscaping between the buildings.
To meet the government’s renewable energy requirements, Durkan will utilize ground source heat pumps to provide heating and hot water to all homes and the buildings will have a combination of ‘green’ and ‘brown’ roofs to attract local wildlife to the area.
The project is anticipated for completion by early summer 2010.
