Lygoe House

Lygoe House

Lygoe House

Project information

The development, on behalf of Affinity Sutton Homes includes six 3-bedroom maisonettes on the lower 2 floors of an existing 1960’s storey building and a 10-storey block with 21 apartments for affordable rent.

To start the project, Durkan demolished the original two floors of the existing property at Lygoe House and constructed six maisonettes all with private gardens. The oval tower block, known as Oval Point was constructed using lightweight steal frame which has the potential to reduce on site waste by 70% when compared to traditional construction. Zinc cladding was used to give the development a modern effect. There are 2 apartments on each floor, all with private balconies. Three of the apartments are wheelchair accessible.

All apartments feature double glazed composite windows and a door leading onto their own private balconies, providing much sought after outside space for residents. The block also has two lifts and staircase to each floor. An entry phone system controls visitors and tradespeople.

The completed buildings received the government’s environmental standard rating of ‘Very Good.’ To achieve this rating Durkan offered detailed energy saving advise to all residents and provided bike bays to encourage residents to cycle.
