Project information

Durkan Limited completed the development of 57 new apartments for One Housing Association on Plaistow High Street, E13. The project, with a construction value of £7.3m, saw the transformation of a disused brownfield site into a multi-storey apartment block of between 3 and 5 levels known as Nebula Court. Construction of the apartments of mixed sizes, including some duplex layouts. 33 of the apartments are for shared ownership and 24 are for rented accommodation.

David Wood Architects strategically designed the L-shaped building to incorporate approximately 30 trees, on the perimeter of the site, that are under a Tree Protection Order. The remaining areas were extensively landscaped for use as communal gardens, play areas and associated residents parking.

Durkan utilised traditional brick building techniques with a reinforced concrete frame and concrete piles that reach a depth of 21 metres. Durkan installed solar panels on the roof that feed the communal heating facilities located in the specially built basement. Additional insulation is provided by the double glazed aluminum windows. The building achieved an Eco Homes rating of ‘Very Good’.
