Ryecroft Road, Harlow
Project information
Durkan, in conjunction with Warden Housing Association have recently developed a disused garage site whilst helping to transform the lives of a group of local people living in the Harlow area.
The self-build £1.79m development in Ryecoft Road, Harlow, Essex included the demolition of the disused garage site and the construction of 12 flats and 2 houses. The Dukan project was built as a social housing scheme and has provided 14 people with the skills they needed to help in the construction of their own homes.
The self-builders studied at Harlow College to get the necessary know-how and qualifications to work on the site and when completed they were able to move in to the homes they helped to build.
The timber-framed buildings were constructed using locally sourced materials which include low water-use sanitary fittings and large floor-to-ceiling south-facing windows to make maximum use of available light.
Harlow MP, Bill Rammell, and Harlow Council Housing Committee Chairman Mark Wilkinson, recently visited the completed project to see the outstanding results and meet the self-builders.
The two storey flats include 11 two bed and 1 one bed with wheelchair access. The 2 semi detached houses include 1 four bed and 1 three bed.
