Elgin Centre, Maida Vale
Project information
At Elgin Avenue in Maida Vale, Durkan constructed a 5-storey development with a doctors surgery on the ground floor on behalf of Places for People. The existing small single storey surgery, which had been neglected for many years, was demolished and replaced with a 5-storey block consisting of 15 apartments for affordable rent, each with their own balcony. These were in a mix of ten 2-bedroom apartments, four 3-bedroom apartments and one 5-bedroom apartment. Patients of the surgery were temporarily decanted to a surgery nearby during the construction process.
The new doctors surgery includes a reception area with a security screen as well as secure sliding doors, operated via reception. Works also included 2 main office areas and a kitchenette for staff as well as a large waiting room, 3 consultant rooms, a room for community nurses and a treatment room. A communications room for the surgeries servers was created as well as storage rooms and sluice room.
