Lysander House, Bethnal Green, East London Project information At Lysander House in Bethnal Green, East London, Durkan refurbished the external entrance of the block, providing much needed security enhancements for residents. Durkan’s works included a two-stage door entry system, security fence, step free access to all ground floor homes and landscaping works. Durkan also provided a new Underground Refuse System, enabling residents to dispose of their waste into a hidden concrete bin chamber so they are no longer faced with unsightly bins and overflowing rubbish. Works were carried out with all residents in occupation. The security enhancements came as a result of residents complaining to the client about the issues affecting their homes. Stairwells in the block were being continually used by local youths as a meeting and gathering point. With the provision of double entry security system, only those permitted to enter the building can get in. THCH consulted with residents and sought approval from the Bethnal Green Area Resident Board before Durkan commenced works.
