Coventry Cross Estate Project information Durkan are currently working with Poplar HARCA to help them realise their promise to deliver a flagship urban renewal scheme on the Coventry Cross Estate in Poplar, London. Durkan has worked closely with Poplar HARCA and Baily Garner to enhance the specification of works and introduce retrofit principles which will help achieve an 82.%% reduction in Carbon emissions (from the Government baseline of 1990). Durkan won the competitive tender for refurbishment works to Coventry Cross and together with Baily Garner immediately began to explore way to introduce environmental improvements. The schedule of works which include renewal of roof coverings, wall cladding, new lifts, electrical wiring and improvements to balconies and shop fronts which could contribute to reducing energy costs by up to 20%. With Poplar HARCA, Durkan’s Resident Liaison Officers will also help residents understand how small changes of habit will reduce their own energy bills. We will also monitor the buildings performance and savings being made, once the works are completed so that we can benchmark the results.
