Holborn Mansions, London EC1

Holborn Mansions, London EC1

Project information

Durkan have been selected to undertake the £6.8m internal and external refurbishment of five Victorian mansion blocks in Holborn EC1 for St Pancras & Humanist Housing Association.

Dating back to the 1800’s, the Braunton, Bideford, Barnstaple, Dulverton and Dawlish mansions were originally designed for the use of barristers working near the ‘Inns of Court’ during the week before returning to their country houses at the weekend.

Durkan Limited will revamp the eighty-four flats to make better use of the limited space available and provide more useable kitchens & bathrooms. Improvements will also be made to the heating, joinery, plumbing, drainage and windows of the properties.

In addition to the residential element of the scheme, each block varies from four to six storeys and will include commercial space on the ground floor. The work will ensure that the blocks meet modern energy and insulation standards, as well as the government’s Decent Homes requirements.
