Yew Tree Lodge, Hillingdon, Uxbridge Project information Durkan's £1.6 million project at Yew Tree Lodge in Ruislip, Hillingdon, included the demolition of the existing buildings and the construction of a new 2-storey sheltered housing block to provide 13 supported living apartments for residents with learning difficulties. The development won the affordable housing development of the year category in the Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards 2009. The contemporary new building contains a foyer and reception as well as ancillary administrative offices, over-night staff quarters, a communal kitchen, toilets and a resident’s common room. The 2-storey building is sympathetic to the design of the Grade II-listed Highgrove House, situated opposite, however the contemporary floor to ceiling black UPC windows are central to the environmental strategy of the new building. The development is tailored to residents’ needs and requirements and has created great environment, enabling residents to lead independent lives.
