Durkan completes major Affordable Housing scheme in Hertfordshire
Durkan are proud to announce we have completed work on a major £22million affordable housing scheme in Fairview Road, Stevenage, Hertfordshire. As part of our involvement with the innovative Logic Homes partnership, Durkan Limited has provided 198 new apartments and houses including a high rise block and estate infrastructure for the Genesis Housing Group and is part of the first tranche of ‘English Partnerships’ land disposal programme.
The attractive, high density scheme was built on the site of a disused sports ground. It has provided a mix of 55 rented and 143 shared ownership homes, including over 100 Low Cost Shared Equity apartments for Key Workers. Situated within 200 yards of the railway station and town centre, it provides much needed housing in a prime central location.
In line with government policy encouraging innovative construction techniques in social housing projects, Durkan utilised three different types of construction on the scheme. Concrete frame was used on the highest blocks reaching up to ten storeys, some four storey apartments were built by traditional methods, and timber frame construction was used for two and three storey houses and three and four storey apartments.
