Durkan introduce Ivor Goodsite to Berger Primary School

On 16th December, Durkan’s Health and Safety team gave a presentation to children at Berger Primary School in Hackney about the dangers of playing close to a construction site.

Durkan invited Ivor Goodsite, the costumed character developed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme to positively promote the UK construction industry to a young audience.

The school choir were later given a tour of the new school during the topping out ceremony and sung carols to attendees, which included local councillors. The special ceremony celebrated a significant milestone in the development of the children’s new state-of-the-art environmentally-friendly school. Almost 12 months after construction began, the topping out ceremony saw the completion of the highest point of the structure.

John Burrow, Head of Property and Capital Development at The Learning Trust, said: “The topping out of the new Berger Primary School marks a significant development in the construction of the new building. It’s part of The Learning Trust’s commitment along with our partners to build sustainable schools for the future that benefit Hackney’s children and the local community.”

The new Berger Primary School will open in Spring 2010 and will replace the existing primary school which currently occupies the southern part of the site.
