Durkan put forward for three Considerate Constructor Scheme Awards
Durkan has been put forward for three Considerate Constructor Scheme (CCS) Awards. The CCS issues national awards for those sites where construction companies go the extra mile. By demonstrating that Durkan seek to minimise disruption during works whilst ensuring sites are kept safe at all times and benefiting communities from our presence, Durkan’s CCS site audit scores continue to exceed the benchmark for all projects registered with the scheme. To demonstrate our commitment we became an associate member in 2007 and continue to go well beyond the scheme’s minimum standards.

Durkan actively identify opportunities to contribute to the local communities on all projects we undertake. At Strongbridge Road in Harrow we are in partnership with Metropolitan Housing Association to regenerate the existing estate. Before starting work on site we initiated a family fun day enabling us to meet residents in a friendly atmosphere and provide further detailed information about the regeneration of their homes. Durkan have also provided various residents of the estate placements to work as trainees at the site. This has been recognised by Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West.
Close to our Greenwich Wharf site, Durkan continue to mentor students who are hoping to or starting a career in construction. Members from various Durkan departments visit the Shooters Hill Post 16 Campus in Greenwich to talk to students about career opportunities in construction and our Community Liaison Manager, Paul McCrea is a member of the Board of Governors. He has helped to deliver a new construction based diploma at the campus and Durkan recently received recognition at the Education Business Partnership Awards for ‘Services to Education’ at Shooters Hill College.
Aware of the impact of our bursary in Hertfordshire, we extended the programme to our major refurbishment project in East Dulwich. Here we are currently helping young people under the Durkan Bursary scheme through a £2,000 donation. Once again, the bursary enables youngsters to commit to further and better education – an opportunity that may well have not existed without our assistance.
These three projects have been recognised by the CCS and are an example of the way Durkan work with clients to not only improve local residents homes and lives, but also their neighbourhoods and local communities.
