Durkan receives RoSPA Bronze Award for Occupational Health & Safety

Durkan is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the RoSPA Bronze Award for Occupational Health & Safety for our ‘Put Safety First’ campaign.

We launched the campaign in October 2004, with the aim of reducing risks on site and putting safety at the forefront of procedures. We have already seen significant results, with reportable injuries falling from an average of nine per year prior to 2004, down to two in 2005.

The following initiatives form the backbone of the campaign:

  • Putting safety as the first agenda item for all meetings, both corporate and on-site.
  • Introduction of a widely used ‘Put Safety First’ logo.
  • Creation of ‘Five Steps to a Safer Site’ literature
  • Creation of safety cards for each trade
  • Improvement of site safety induction training.

Although we are delighted to have been awarded this honour, we will not rest on our laurels and will continue to develop health and safety policies, to fine-tune our existing procedures, to monitor and review risk assessments and method statements and to work to improve consistency in the safe implementation of the work on our sites.
