Durkan win £3.5 million contract in Walthamstow
Durkan has been awarded a £3.5 million contract by Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association to construct a mix of much needed homes in Walthamstow.
Durkan's project will involve the demolition of a former petrol station and the removal of existing underground tanks to make way for the construction a 5-storey apartment block, providing 32 homes for affordable rent, shared ownership and private sale. The homes are in a mix of 1 to 3 bedroom apartments, ensuring that families are provided with enough space to live comfortably.
As well as one ground floor apartment being fully wheelchair accessible, the development employs innovative measures to reduce energy consumption. A solar thermal water heating installation will be provided and energy efficient condensing boilers installed in to each apartment to meet Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. The outdoor space will include a landscaped communal garden, enclosed space for 32 bikes and a garage for 16 cars.
Managing Director of Durkan, Robert Clark, comments: "We are delighted to be working with Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association on this exciting new development in Walthamstow. Durkan continue to produce quality, innovative and sustainable developments by combining our expertise and strength with our clients' commitment to meeting local housing needs."
The project is part of the Northern Olympic Fringe Area Action Plan to improve the local area.
